I have read the many heartfelt arguments both for and against the Dakota Pacific referendum.
Supporters argue that the Summit County Council failed to adequately represent the needs and desires of the community in its negotiations with Dakota Pacific, and that a referendum is the only way to correct this.
Opponents contend that the council did the best it could under the threat of incorporation or state intervention. Others believe that increased density is a necessary tool for addressing housing affordability.
Regardless of where one stands, we should not be afraid of giving the people of Summit County a direct voice in this decision. What better way to determine, once and for all, how our community truly feels about the Dakota Pacific development?
