Summit County Dispatch received a call from a woman near Hoytsville who said she needed her adult son removed from the home on Sunday.
Dispatchers then heard a cursing man take the phone, and the man said the woman didn’t need the police and disconnected the call.
Summit County sheriff’s deputies responded to the woman’s home to conduct a welfare check. During their investigation, they concluded the son had taken the mother’s phone during her 911 call and slapped her. He also appeared intoxicated, according to a shift report from the Sheriff’s Office.
The man was arrested and medically cleared before being transported to the Summit County Jail.
The Sheriff’s Office responded to multiple other calls between Monday, Feb. 10, and Sunday, Feb. 16, including driving under the influence, drug possession and a stranded snowmobile rider.
Saturday, Feb. 15
Deputies stopped a vehicle on S.R. 224 for a traffic violation. The driver displayed signs of impairment and performed poorly on field sobriety tests. Deputies arrested the driver for allegedly driving under the influence.
Friday, Feb. 14
Summit County Search and Rescue responded to Bald Mountain to help a lone snowmobile rider. The rescue mission was successful.
Wednesday, Feb. 12
Deputies responded to a reported suspicious vehicle in the Summit County Justice Center parking lot. The woman inside the vehicle admitted she had marijuana in her purse during the investigation. Deputies then initiated a search and found various controlled substances and drug paraphernalia. The woman was arrested on possession charges and transported to the Summit County Jail.
