I don’t understand why Sundance doesn’t consider staying in Park City, but changing the timing of the festival. Just think of all the benefits of moving the festival to the last 10 days of June.
The film goers would not have to compete with skiers. There would be much less traffic, lower hotel rates, better weather, easier restaurant accessibility and no school so the Eccles Center would be available.
This change of timing would also be welcomed by our merchants, since it is a slow time of year.
This seems so obvious that one wonders if Sundance is just putting the festival “out to bid” to get as much money as they can. The model of movie viewing has changed and Sundance is greatly impacted.
It is understandable that they need more government assistance. But changing locales is distributive and could further diminish their brand.
