Many of us over the years frequent the Smith’s Food & Drugs Supermarket at Kimball Junction and have had the pleasure to interact with Sarahjane Souza-Williams. While many may not know the name to the face, most know her as the “Cashier on Lane 4.” Most parents may know her as the “sticker lady,” as she hands out stickers (that she purchases with her own money) to small children who accompany their parents.
As owner and co-owner of two of Park City’s local grocery delivery services, Stacey Conklin (Stacey’s Grocery Delivery) and I (Comestibles of Utah) have had the pleasure of interacting with her on a daily basis. Stacey and I, as well as many other Parkites, will often endure a longer line, just to have her as our cashier, as her smile and overall attitude is always positive and uplifting.
With that said, many Parkites may not know that underneath that electric smile and glowing personality, that for the past several months she has also had to endure her husband Dave’s cancer diagnosis and had to make the difficult decision recently to engage hospice.
It is with an extremely heavy heart that on the afternoon of Jan. 12, 2025, around 4 p.m. that Dave left our physical world to join others who have lost their battle with cancer.
As the sole income earner for her family, Sarajane would drive well over an hour every day from Evanston, Wyoming, to work at Smith’s.
While she is taking some time to grieve over her loss, she will have increased financial obligations that will undoubtedly take a significant time to rebound from.
The Park City community is a strong one that bands together when someone in our local community needs help or support, and Stacey and I can think of no other person more deserving of support during this time than Sarajane.
While both of us and many others on the Park City Community Forum Group on Facebook have made financial contributions to Sarahjane, we realize that there are many Parkites that may not be on social media who would love to help put a smile back on Sarahjane’s face.
