Yes, I did agree to attend the meeting about the Dakota Pacific development, and I am not prescient, but the outcome was easy to predict. The members of the Summit County Council “representing us” ended up representing themselves, making poor use of the microphone at their disposal, so bad that the public was one and all bent forward in their chairs trying to grasp what it was that was being said.
I was alarmed at the danger that one member put himself by droning on and on. I thought he might fall asleep, fall on the table and break his nose. The public at this meeting was not allowed to tell them what we think.
To live here and see how we’re walking forward into choking this town, making it like the cities we left behind, driving to ski a chore, leaving the mountain a struggle. We vote for these people? Are they not able to see what we all see.
I give a hoot if Dakota Pacific will build here. They make the mess. We will be left with it.
It should be one house per 20 acres, not 20 houses per acre. The vote was irresponible in the extreme, and we should vote out anyone involved in this.
