Park City staff reported this week that water line replacement on Main Street is running ahead of schedule.
Crews completed the first two phases of a three-phase project in November, ahead of the scheduled three years. The Public Utilities team, at the request of the Historic Park City Alliance, accelerated the project schedule by adding work in the fall to reduce work needed next spring. This will ease impacts on Main Street sidewalks in June 2025, when there are typically more visitors, city staff said.
During phase I in the spring, crews installed the water main line and all individual service lines from Heber Avenue to 5th Street. Phase II this fall included the installation of the new main line from 5th Street to Swede Alley and the replacement of old individual lines in 5th Street between Park Avenue and Main Street. The pavement was restored, and equipment and materials have been demobilized for the winter.
Phase II was completed on budget, spending $1.8 million of the $3.68 million budget for Phase II and III. The total replacement cost for all phases is estimated to be $5.8 million, compared to the $7 million originally estimated. Crews will return in late March to begin the final phase of the project.
