Summit County is launching a new text-based service to communicate with residents.
The platform, called TextMyGov, debuts on Wednesday, Dec. 11, according to a press release from the county. Residents who have a phone number registered with the U.S. Postal Service should automatically receive a text from 91896 to initiate or decline the service.
For those who don’t receive a text or aren’t registered with the Postal Service, residents can opt-in by texting “SUMMITCOUNTY” to 91896.
The system is designed for non-emergency communications, such as construction information, service disruptions and events. There will also be specific categories that Summit Countians can subscribe to by texting keywords to the 91896 number, including “SCROADS” for Public Works, “SCHEALTH” for the Health Department and “SCBIKE” for the Summit Bike Share program.
The county expects to add more categories next year.
As part of the service, beginning in the spring of 2025, residents will be able to text a few keywords to 435-495-4090 to request information about county departments and elected offices 24/7. Using the same number, residents will also be able to report concerns to the county, such as potholes, according to Communication and Public Engagement Director Derek Siddoway.
