Having started spending winters in Park City in 2001, Tom Clyde has been my go-to columnist for info and entertainment. His point of view is long and well earned, and he’s someone I wish I could have made turns with.
Kate Sonnick, on the other hand, is inspirational! I never fail to gain from her insights and her humor. Her “Lucky Ones” is a suggestion that we need to stop judging others.
One of my brothers once owned a country store in the western mountains of Massachusetts and operated in a similar fashion working with a local program.
We can only succeed as a society if we acknowledge the invisible. It seems greed has become the rule of the day and results in too many of those who can failing to contribute to education or programs for those who are considered lesser beings because they’re different. It’s important to point out, different includes every human on the planet.
I’m reminded of Joni Mitchell’s “Banquet”: “Some get nothing though there’s plenty to spare.”
The number of people who consider themselves Christian are anything but Christlike. I understand we all work hard to provide for our families. But when is enough while ignoring a large part of the population that needs help and is after all human, no less than others? They’re invisible unless you look, and it’s quite obvious that Lucky Ones was looking!
I once read the Greek word for those with Down syndrome means closer to God! When you spend time with them you can see they have a glow from within. There but for the grace of God go I. I wish everyone well, good health and a comfortable life.
