U.S. Ski Team announces HERoic Cup
The U.S. Ski Team on Thursday announced their new HERoic Cup, which will award the woman with the most points throughout the three U.S. stops on the alpine World Cup tour with $50,000 at a ceremony. The ceremony will celebrate the Cup winner after the final race at the Beaver Creek Cup Dec. 14. The winning athlete can choose to cash the prize or let Stifel manage it, and if there’s a tie, it will be split amongst the tied athletes. The ski organization created the Cup to promote women’s alpine skiing. “We’re excited to help the Stifel U.S. Ski Team celebrate and empower women competing in North America this winter through our sponsorship of the Stifel HERoic Cup,” said Ron Kruszewski, Chairman and CEO of Stifel. “As the firm Where Success Meets Success, we continue to align the Stifel brand with individuals who share our commitment to greatness, and we look forward to supporting these dedicated female athletes as they compete for the first ever Stifel HERoic Cup.” The first U.S. World Cup will be the Killington Cup, held Nov. 30-Dec. 1.
Miners boys basketball falls at home in season opener
The Miners boys basketball squad fell at home Wednesday night in their season opener with Morgan 84-37. In the loss, junior Luke Rice put up 17 points. Park City seniors Kurtis Menge and Michael Zagin also put up five points each. The Miners will next lace up their shoes and hit the court Friday against rival Wasatch. The Wasatch game will tipoff at 7 p.m. After the game, Park City has 21 regular-season games remaining.
Miners White hockey falls Wednesday to East at home
The Miners White hockey squad fell Wednesday night to East 5-4 at the Park City Ice Arena. East jumped out to a 3-1 first-period lead, and while Park City outscored them 2-1 in the second period, their comeback fell just short. The Miners White scored the equalizing goal with about five minutes to go in the third period, before giving up the game-winner seconds later. Harper Brent, Evan Snihurowych, Wyatt Nellis and Toby Larkin were Park City’s goal scorers. The Miners White are now 7-2-1 heading into their inner-program rivalry game with the Miners Red team next Wednesday night. That game will begin at 6:30 p.m. at the Park City Ice Arena.
