A 28-year-old man was arrested early Saturday morning after leading law enforcement on a pursuit through Wyoming and Summit County.
The Uinta County Sheriff’s Office notified Summit County Dispatch that officers were pursuing a black sedan into Summit County on Interstate 80, according to an affidavit of probable cause.
Wyoming law enforcement ended their pursuit near mile marker 187 as Summit County deputies and the Utah Highway Patrol were enroute. A deputy spotted the vehicle near Echo Canyon and attempted to initiate a traffic stop.
The suspect continued to flee and changed directions on I-80 several times and committed multiple traffic offenses. The pursuit ended when the man drove off the embankment on westbound I-80 through a wire fence and onto the railroad tracks. He then ran off on foot.
A K9 deputy was deployed, and the search restarted. The man was found about 220 yards from his car on private property. He was unconscious and appeared to have difficulty breathing, the report said.
Deputies took him into custody and administered Narcan, a medicine that reverses an opioid overdose. He regained consciousness and medical personnel transported him to the Park City Hospital for care. The man was cleared from the hospital and transported to the Summit County Jail.
Deputies found a container of hard liquor during a search of the car. The man was charged with failure to respond to the command of law enforcement, a third-degree felony and his second DUI offense in 10 years, failure to install an ignition interlock device, open container, reckless driving and driving on a denied license at the time of his arrest, all misdemeanors.
The man is being held in the Summit County jail without bail.
The Sheriff’s Office responded to several other calls between Monday, Oct. 7, and Sunday, Oct. 13, including reports of reckless driving, theft and assault.
Saturday, Oct. 12
Deputies stopped a speeding car and saw two open containers of beer. The driver had a slurred speech, and the car smelled of alcohol. The driver performed poorly on a standardized field sobriety test. He was arrested for suspected drunk driving and taken to the Summit County Jail.
A theft was reported at a Kimball Junction business. Deputies found the suspect and found the individual in possession of the stolen item. Deputies searched his bag and found a small amount of methamphetamine. The suspect also had active warrants out of Weber County and Arkansas. Deputies booked the individual into the Summit County Jail without incident.
Friday, Oct. 11
Deputies were dispatched to Coalville for a man running erratically through several yards. Deputies responded to a similar incident earlier in the day for the same individual. Callers said the man was acting paranoid and claiming people were trying to kill him as he was running. Deputies made contact with the man, who showed signs of drug use. The man started to run away, and a foot chase ensued. Deputies tased the man and charged him with disorderly conduct and failure to stop at the command of a peace officer.
Thursday, Oct. 10
Summit County Search and Rescue assisted with the Yellow Lake Fire.
Summit County Dispatch received separate 911 calls about a reckless driver speeding and slowing down, failing to maintain a lane and following too closely. A Utah Highway Patrol trooper located the vehicle traveling westbound on I-80. The car took a while to stop after the sirens were activated, and the trooper observed signs of impairment when making contact with the driver. The driver could not speak clearly and did not listen to commands. The trooper found an open container of vodka and beer containers as well as marijuana and prescription drugs missing their labels. The man refused to participate in a sobriety test. He was arrested on several charges. He is being held in the Summit County Jail without bail.
Monday, Oct. 7
A burglary alarm went off in Promontory Ranch. Deputies arrived and located a man attempting to leave the area. Deputies stopped the car and noticed the driver displayed several signs of impairment. He also smelled of alcohol. The man refused orders from law enforcement and resisted arrest. He also refused to participate in a field sobriety test. A warrant was issued to collect a blood sample, and the man was still uncooperative with deputies. He was arrested and charged with suspected DUI and resisting arrest.
A Silver Springs man was arrested and charged with aggravated assault. He is being held in the Summit County Jail without bail.
