There has lately been much discussion about the development of Bonanza Park, much of it very positive, but the one topic I feel has not gotten enough attention is the possibility to add an impressive, contemporary art building that would bring a whole new wave of awareness, business, and tax revenue.
Right now our major art center, the Kimball Art Center, is virtually hidden and we’re wasting an opportunity. Properly done, a new Kimball would attract major international artists and their following. And it would even out activity throughout the year and benefit local businesses as well as creating tax income and not putting the stress on the community that major events do.
We have already made a start. In 2022, arts generated $176 in economic activity and $6.6 in tax revenue for Park City. That’s a lot more than we’d get from pickleball.
Park City is an ideal location for a new, dynamic art building. With our elegant lodging, award-winning dining, year-round outdoor activities and more, Park City has proven itself worthy of making a dramatic entry into the world of art.
Skiing is a business our town excels in. We can do the same with art.
Build it and they will come!
