The Christian Center of Park City will hold its annual Hike for Hunger event this Saturday, Sept. 14 at Canyons Village.
The hike’s goals is to raise awareness of food insecurity in Summit and Wasatch counties and to gather community support for the group’s food pantries and relief initiatives.
According to the center, about 9% of children, or 1 in 11, in Summit County face food insecurity. That’s over 1,000 children. Around 12% of children, 1 in 8, in Wasatch County live in food-insecure households. That’s slightly higher than the statewide average, the group said in an email invite to the event. “This equates to over 1,200 children who face regular challenges in getting enough food.”
At the event, the group will recommend a variety of routes with different distances and difficulty levels that people of any age and fitness can enjoy. The family-friendly event will also feature food, live music and more. All ticket sales go toward the center’s food pantries.
