Leadership Park City opened applications on Friday for its 31st class, the first group since founder and long-time director Myles Rademan signaled his retirement.
This group will be led by Scott van Hartesvelt, the program’s new director selected by Park City Municipal in June. He is set to take over the role next week and work alongside Rademan and other alumni of the program.
Van Hartesvelt was a graduate of Leadership Park City Class 29. He has also served in leadership roles for Park City area organizations: service chair for the Sunrise Rotary, board member for the Hope Alliance and member of the Park City Chamber Marketing Committee.
“I look forward to working with the hundreds of alumni, advisors, presenters and officials who have shaped Leadership into what it is today,” he said. “Most of all, I can’t wait to welcome each new class of leaders, and to watch them build upon the legacy that was started 30 years ago.”
Launched in 1995, Leadership Park City is a year-long community leadership program with over 900 graduates, alumni who have gone on to serve the city as mayors, city councilors and planning commissioners. The program features a combination of full-day, half-day and evening programs in 10 sessions throughout the year, and includes a multi-day field trip.
The curriculum covers topics like Group Building & Problem Solving, Local Government, Legal & Infrastructure, Tourism & Economic Development, Community Organizations & Citizen Participation and culminates in a class service project designed to benefit the Summit County community.
“Successful applicants are ‘doers’ wanting to meet and network with like-minded people, learn new ideas, and improve their leadership skills all while helping shape their community’s future,” the application announcement says.
Anyone living or working in Summit or Wasatch counties is eligible to apply, and the organization is looking for individuals with a desire to get involved and learn more about the challenges of the Park City community.
Applications must be received by no later than Friday, Aug. 23, and can be submitted at applyforleadership.com.
