The National Weather Service has issued a red flag warning from noon today to 9 p.m. this evening for wind and low relative humidity for fire weather zones in Northern Utah, Grand Staircase and San Rafael Swell.
That means critical fire weather conditions — strong winds, low relative humidity and warm temperatures — are likely to occur in those areas. Any new fire starts or existing fires may spread rapidly, the NWS said, so Utahns should exercise caution.
Northwest 10 to 20 mph winds with gusts up to 30 mph are possible, and they will be strongest in the vicinity of the Raft River Range an across the Wasatch Mountains, according to NWS.
The conditions are expected to redevelop across the San Rafael Swell again Thursday afternoon and evening.
