Many of us received an unsolicited anonymous email last week from Residents Against Sprawl that references a non-existent organization and website with no way to follow up or unsubscribe.
The email uses the same mailing PO Box as the Friends of Responsible Development. It falsely labels Summit County Council candidate Megan McKenna as a pro-development and supports opposition candidate Thomas Cooke as strictly anti-Dakota Pacific. It references some obscure quotes and endorsements for Megan by developers, and purports to tell us what Megan stands for, thinks about, and loves. Muckraking has come to Summit County.
Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, facts and truths, apparently, but there is no place for this kind of fallacious bomb throwing. Megan lives and works in affordable housing and has been pushing for a bigger housing component of the Dakota negotiations, but does not “love” the development or the developers.
She realizes, like the the County Council, that something will be built on this project, and we need to actualize it into something that would benefit all, or the state judicial and legislature branches will take over. While this email is limited to a one-issue voting strategy, Megan is more in tune with the nuanced development options the county has, trumping a naïve “just say no” option.
No one involved with this email has responded publicly. We are better than this and we don’t need to stoop to this level of duplicity. We need to continue to run our elections and government in an honest, transparent and responsible manner.
Vote for Megan for a known quantity, with local character, who can bring old values and fresh ideas to the table instead of hoodwinking histrionics.
