The first Mining History Association Conference in Park City did not pass without some paydirt for the local hosts.
Friends of Ski Mountain Mining History won another award during the conference last week. The association awarded the group the Beseleme-Orrell Heritage Award for preservation, along with a check for $1,000 and a plaque for the History Museum.
According to the association: “The Beselme-Orrell Heritage Award was established in 2013 to recognize outstanding achievements which have demonstrably contributed to the understanding and appreciation of our mining heritage. The award is named for two MHA members, Jim Beselme and Lew Orrell, whose work represented the grass roots nature of most heritage projects.”
“According to the thanks we received, this was the best conference ever,” Friends co-chair Sally Elliott said.
She, along with co-chair Donald Roll and member Marianne Cone, were presented the award by Bob Spude, the head of the award committee.
About 150 people attended the conference June 5-8 at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel — Yarrow.
