Teachers teach to learn and share their knowledge with others. Non-profit employees are committed to a mission, dedicated to a cause — often for people or for our environment. Neither of these livelihoods are about making big bucks, they’re about contributing to our community.
It’s been eight years since I’ve known Megan McKenna, who worked first as a teacher and currently as a housing advocate. She’s always advocated for people from her core. Our mutual passion for teaching, in addition to Recycle Utah, Citizens Climate Lobby and Leadership Class XXVIII involvement, opened my eyes to how abreast she is on our local issues.
Was being a politician in her life plan? No. But sometimes ordinary, caring and passionate citizens become our best public servants.
Megan is genuine, engaged and professional. Raised in Summit County, she understands housing issues, sustainable and smart growth, and the need for continued tourism. It’s been a delight to observe her gain knowledge and confidence while devoting herself to our thriving community complete with some complex issues. And now she has the opportunity to represent us on the Summit County Council!
It’s refreshing to have so many amazing candidates running this year — thank you all for stepping up! Candidate experience varies, but my vote is for Megan based on her personal knowledge of Summit County and her dedication to us, the people, and also to our planet.
