The Miners girls golf season wrapped up Thursday with a sixth-place finish at state.
The state tournament was held Wednesday and Thursday at TalonsCove Golf Club in Saratoga Springs.
The state champions were Cedar High, with a +106 team score. Four strokes back of Cedar High was Green Canyon High in second place. Crimson Cliffs High finished one stroke back of Green Canyon High in third.
Park City’s top four scorers counted towards the team’s overall score, which was a +160 for the week. Those four contributors were Abby Francis, Stevie Hough, Ava Miller and Chloe Aldous. Francis and Hough, the team’s two stars, each finished in the top 25 in the tournament’s individual standings, Francis in 19th and Hough in 25th.
Francis shot +33 for the week of play, and Hough, +40.
The individual champion was Kate Walker of Crimson Cliffs High who shot -2, 11 strokes clear of Kaylee Westfall of Orem High who shot +9. Alyssa Butterfus of Pine View finished in third, shooting +11.
The tournament concludes a successful season for the Miners, where they won four of eight events, including their regional championship. The 16 stroke April 29 regionals victory helped them secure the season-long regional title. Stansbury was their closest competition there, finishing 11 strokes back on the season.
Stansbury was one of six teams to miss the cut at state, out of a total of 16 teams. Three of the five teams to top Park City were from southern Utah, where the sport is largely accessible year round. The Miners had to scramble to find practice and match sites all season, due to another above-average winter snow season.
The 2025 season will likely begin again in March. The boys golf season will occur first this fall, with George Murphy also at the helm. Murphy has numerous boys state titles to his name and is still in search of his first girls state title.
