At the Utah Democratic Party state convention on Saturday, Caroline Gleich of Silver Summit received the Democratic nomination for U.S. Senate with the support of 92% of state delegates.
“I am honored to officially accept the Democratic nomination to be Utah’s next senator,” she said. “We’re running a historically strong campaign focused on our families, our freedom, and our future. As your nominee, I’m excited to take our message directly to Utahns as we move into the general election. As a ski mountaineer who has climbed the highest mountains in the world against all odds, I’m no stranger to a tough challenge and am ready to take this campaign to the summit in November. I’m asking Utahns who are looking for a different kind of leader in Washington to join me.”
Gleich, one of the youngest Senate candidates in the nation, has already made local and national headlines for raising nearly $400,000 in Q1 — more than nearly every Republican in the race — and for her viral launch video that attracted a mention in the New York Times’s list of top 10 2024 Senate races to watch.
The ski mountaineer seeks to succeed the retiring Sen. Mitt Romney in the upper chamber of Congress, outlining a campaign that will stress issues like environmentalism.
She is best known in the Park City area for her extensive career in ski mountaineering and environmental activism. She emerged from a field of three Democrats competing for the party’s nomination. The Republican who emerges with the nomination will be heavily favored to win the seat.
