We are months away from November, but the U.S. Senate ads are already underway. And if you watch them, or pay attention to much local political discourse, or even zoom out and listen nationally, we are on the verge of Gomorrah. But are we?
I start by thinking every day how lucky we are to live here. Are there people we disagree with? Sure.
But it is not a place where we are subject to military attacks, or widespread famine, or roving gangs in the streets. It is a place that every day should leave us in wonder. No one is out to get you, nor is everyone corrupt, as I have heard.
As humans, we all have our flaws, and are imperfect from time to time. And to be certain, some people are better than others.
But we are not a failing nation (or city or county) that needs to be saved. Shame of the folks who use outrage and fear and condescension as their form of persuasion.
If that is the best you have, I will look for the folks who look to work with others, act compassionately, and genuinely try to do what is right instead of what is right for them.
