Deer Valley Resort on Tuesday has scheduled another gathering centered on a concept to remake the Snow Park base with a major development.
The event will continue the resort’s efforts to publicize the vision for Snow Park, the location of the primary parking lots and where many skiers not staying at Deer Valley start their day.
An online Deer Valley posting advertising the event says the plans for Snow Park in recent months have “evolved and we are excited to share the latest plan interventions and updates.” The posting indicates Deer Valley will make a presentation covering “plans and concepts that will be the foundation” of the next steps leading to a submission to City Hall “in the coming months.”
The submission is expected to re-launch talks with the Park City Planning Commission about a project. The submission is also expected to reflect an agreement Deer Valley reached with Mayor Nann Worel and the Park City Council that will require a reworking of the concept from an earlier iteration.
Park City leaders in late 2023 reached an agreement with Deer Valley that involves the municipal government vacating sections of Deer Valley Drive West and Deer Valley Drive South, which would remove the sections of road from the map of public streets as part of the overall traffic circulation designs for a development at Snow Park. Park City leaders and Deer Valley as part of the negotiations agreed to a public-private partnership that will address transportation and housing.
The agreement is significant enough in its scope that Deer Valley is crafting new plans from the ones that were presented earlier.
There are development rights attached to the land where the Snow Park parking lots are located dating to the 1970s. Deer Valley, though, must win another set of approvals before work could commence. The resort wants to remake the Snow Park base with residences, commercial space, a hotel and entertainment. Large garages would be built to account for parking spots that are lost as the lots are developed.
The gathering on Tuesday, dubbed a community workshop, is scheduled from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. at the Lodges at Deer Valley, 2900 Deer Valley Drive East.
