As a brief introduction, I am Chick Hill and my family, friends and I have enjoyed visiting Park City as second-home owners for over 40 years. I spent 33 years as an industrial engineer and developer/manager in the hotel business. My company, Davidson Hotel Company, primarily developed upscale, full service hotels across the country. I sold my company in 2006 and am enjoying retirement.
In 1998, my friend, Pat Sweeney, and I built the two houses on Upper Norfolk on lots 3 and 4 (white and green houses) in the Treasure Hill Subdivision in accordance with the Sweeney Master Plan. Along with our houses, we also built the skiing and hiking trails that are used by the community today.
When Pat moved up the hillside, I bought his house, which is the green house and has been primarily used by our friends over the years. Both houses were built in accordance with the principles outlined in the Sweeney Master Plan.
The end result of these houses is the community experiences very convenient access to skiing in the winter and hiking/biking in spring/summer/fall at the Park City Mountain Resort.
The Sweeney family, in my opinion, created an impressive idea with the Sweeney Master Plan, by creating seven private lots for private houses and then using private money from those owners to develop the hillside, allowing much needed non vehicular access to the mountain by the community.
These seven lots have their own unique development requirements as spelled out in the rights granted to the Sweeney family and I don’t understand this new review of the build-able specifications being put forth by the Park City Planning Department. It doesn’t seem appropriate to renegotiate now what was agreed upon years ago.
As I write this letter, I am pleased to look out my window and see lots of people skiing across what in the off-season is my front yard. The Sweeney family should be congratulated for creating something that has improved many people’s lives, not to mention keeping the appearance of the hillside attractive from the town.
I understand Mr./Mrs. Prince wish to build on Lot 2, 220 King Road, and I wish them well. Their approach is no different than what Pat and I did back in the ’90s. The quality of their plans and architecture are very impressive. I fully support their application and look forward to having Mr. Prince and family as neighbors.
