Sundance Film Festival-goers will have the opportunity to learn about electric-powered Acura vehicles on Swede Alley.
And afterward, they may walk a short distance for some free tater tots.
The map of temporary corporate locations during Sundance is beginning to be defined, particularly the spots that will be organized by firms with direct ties to the festival through sponsorships. City Hall staffers in a report that was prepared in anticipation of a Park City Council meeting that was held on Thursday provided a rundown of some of the locations that are planned during the January festival.
The Main Street core is traditionally transformed for the festival with numerous corporate interests and others seeking the visibility of the nation’s top marketplace of independent films. The report covers official festival sponsors that expect to operate on public property and those that will open in private property.
One of the most notable of the temporary setups will be in Bob Wells Plaza on Swede Alley, which offers a large space in the Main Street core. The report indicates the Acura House of Energy will operate at the location. It describes the plans as highlighting the automaker’s vehicles powered with electricity, “further aligning with the city’s sustainability goals.” The report explains the organizers of the location desire a Jan. 6 start to the setup, which would provide an additional six days as compared to the work in 2023. The crews in 2023 “were under extreme pressure and working in hazardous conditions due to significant snow loads,” the report says.
The streaming service Hulu will operate a food truck in the parking lot on Swede Alley widely known as the Galleria lot. The report says free tater tots will be available “to celebrate the anniversary” of the film “Napoleon Dynamite.” There is a scene in the 2004 Sundance entry involving tater tots.
Locations that will be occupied by official Sundance sponsors include:
- Adobe, which will open at 558 Main St.
- United Airlines, which will open at 751 Main St.
- Cotopaxi, which will open at 333 Main St.
- World of Hyatt, which will open at 440 Main St.
- MACRO Lounge presented by Chase Sapphire, which will open at 136 Heber Ave.
- White Claw, which will open at 201 Main St.
- Deadline Hollywood, which will open at 608 Main St.
The report, meanwhile, notes corporate interests that previously had official ties to Sundance but will not in 2024. They include Netflix, Canada Goose, Stacy’s Pita Chips and Lyft. The ridesharing firm Lyft operated a highly visible location in 2023 along Swede Alley that included arcade games, while Stacy’s Pita Chips distributed small bags of the chips for free to the festival crowds along Main Street.
The report does not include a list of corporate interests or others like tourism organizations that expect to have a presence in Park City during Sundance but do not have official ties to the festival. There is usually a lengthy list of those categories.
