A Wasatch County father and son were both arrested Wednesday evening after the son pointed a gun at his father, and his father stabbed his son in the neck.
“Upon law enforcement arrival the subject was laying on the ground holding his neck. The subject was treated by law enforcement for the injury and was cleared by EMS on the scene,” the son’s arrest affidavit stated. “The subject did not want to talk about it to not get his dad in trouble.”
The father’s arrest affidavit went further into detail, stating the man claimed his son pointed a gun in his face. Both affidavits indicate the father and son were both intoxicated at the time.
A Wasatch County sheriff’s deputy went into the room where the incident took place and found the father and two knives on the floor — one open, the other closed.
The affidavit said the deputy also found a gun on a bed that was “in the locked position and the loaded magazine was right next the handgun.”
The father and son were both charged with aggravated assault, carrying a dangerous weapon under the influence of drugs or alcohol and intoxication.
Last year on Sept. 17, the father was arrested by the Wasatch County Sheriff Office for the same charges after “pointing a gun in the son’s face.”
Though the earlier affidavit didn’t identify if the son was the same son the father was stabbed by Thursday, it said the “son and father got in a fight, son talked back to him and they got in a fight and he pulled a gun on him.”
Dispatch also said the boy’s mother began fighting with his father for the weapon.
“The male admitted to having pointed the firearm,” the affidavit read, “but stated it was not chambered and he had pointed the firearm at him just for the fight.”
While not chambered, there were cartridges in the firearm’s magazine.
