The unofficial results from elections throughout Summit County are in.
Kamas City Councilor Monica Blazzard appears to have won re-election to her seat with 312 votes, or nearly 30%. Leslie Staples, with 298 votes, and Larry Gines, with 282 votes, are also expected to join the city council, according to preliminary results updated on Wednesday evening. Staples and Gines serve on the Kamas Planning Commission.
Voters appear to have eliminated Justin Reber, who received 155 votes.
Incumbent Dave Neff was the top vote getter in the Oakley City Council race with 362 votes, or 28%. Joe Frazier and Tom Smart also appear to have been re-elected. Frazier received 319 votes and Smart earned 224 votes.
The other candidates were:
- Kelly Edwards, with 181 votes
- Kerbee Atkinson, with 172 votes
Coalville City Councilor Tyler Rowser appears to have lost his re-election bid. He earned 100 votes. Lynn Wood was the first place finisher with 223 votes. Wood is a former accountant who is a founding member of nonprofit organization North Summit Unite. She recognized the community is at a crossroads, and wants to improve engagement between the government and residents.
Shaun Powis, a business entrepreneur, was elected to a Coalville City Council seat with 211 votes. He plans to bring together local officials, business owners and community organizations to help solve the city’s issues. Planning Commissioner Brandon Brady is poised to take the third open seat after he received 163 votes. Brady has an extensive background as a transportation planner.
The other candidates were:
- Stefanie Bowen, with 153 votes
- Cindy Padgett, with 94 votes
The South Summit Fire District Commission is expected to welcome Thayne Stembridge back to the panel. Stembridge, who previously served as a commissioner but isn’t currently on the panel, received 953 votes. Current South Summit Fire District Commissioner Julie Black appears to have claimed the second seat with 931 votes.
The other candidates were:
- Larry Leifson, with 762 votes
- Incumbent David Ure, with 491 votes
More than one thousand votes separated the candidates for Snyderville Basin Water Reclamation District Board of Trustees. Bob Richer was easily re-elected with 2,225 votes. Kevin Williams received 627 votes.
Voter turnout countywide was around 30% as of Wednesday. Summit County Clerk Eve Furse said results would not be updated until next week.
The Clerk’s Office will perform a post-election audit of the ballots at 2 p.m. on Tuesday at the Summit County Courthouse. The public is invited to attend. The ballots will then be processed at 9 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 4 in Coalville. The results of the 2023 election are not official until certified.
