The South Summit Wildcats eked out a 17-14 victory over the Layton Christian Academy Eagles on Friday night in the semifinals of the 2A playoffs. In doing so, the Wildcats advanced to the state championship game, which is to be played Saturday at 4 p.m., at Southern Utah University, down in Cedar City. In that contest, they’ll be facing off against the top-seeded San Juan Broncos, who are coming off a 51-0 drubbing of Summit Academy in their semifinal. If South Summit are to collect their ninth state title, and first since 2018, they’ll likely have to rely upon the arm of star signal caller Bracken Lassche, who turned in a monster performance Friday against the Eagles, as he’s so often done this season.
