The Dixie Flyers drubbed the Logan Grizzlies last week 55-13, in the first round of the UHSAA 4A playoffs. With the resounding victory, the Flyers have now become the Park City Miners’ second round opponent on Friday.
The Miners, who spent last week resting up and practicing on a bye, will host the contest at 6 p.m. at Dozier Field. Park City defended their home field advantage during the regular season, going 5-1 there, as a part of their 9-1 overall record.
While the 4A Miners’ most recent game at Dozier was a loss to 5A second seed Springville Red Devils, they should have reasonable confidence facing Dixie for a variety of reasons. Not only will Park City enter the contest a massive favorite, as the fourth seed facing off against the 13th, but they’ll be attempting to re-complete a task they took care of already this season.
The Miners defeated the Flyers of Saint George 24-21 at home on Aug. 25 this season, albeit then at relatively full strength. That game was the last in which they got full contributions from stars Lincoln Jackson and Will McCurdy, who missed large chunks of time due to injuries.
Park City’s dynamic duo looks to be back, especially following the bye week, and they’ll need all the production they can get with a confident Dixie team coming in off a playoff blowout.
Miners will be seeking their first state quarterfinal appearance since 2020. If successful, they would again play host, this time to the winner of Timpanogos and Mountain Crest. Park City also defeated Timpanogos in the second of the regular season on the road. The 4A semifinals and finals are scheduled for Nov. 9, 10 and 17 at Utah’s Rice-Eccles Stadium.
Tickets this week will be $5 for students and seniors, and $10 for everyone else. They can be purchased on GoFan’s website and in person with a debit or credit card. You might want to arrive at Dozier Field early, as the stands typically are packed to the brim for every Park City home game.
