A truck and an SUV headed west on Bitner Road toward the stop sign at the T intersection with S.R. 224 around noon Sunday crashed, causing the truck to roll over and eject the driver, 25-year-old Jacob Whiting from Salt Lake County. He was declared dead at the scene.
The driver of the SUV was taken by ambulance for treatment at University of Utah Hospital in what Summit County Sheriff’s Sgt. Brian deBotelho described as fair condition.
The area was closed for several hours afterward while investigators reconstructed the crash and factors involved. DeBotelho, at the scene, said speed appeared to be a factor, but it was too early to speculate about causes or determine whether Whiting was wearing his seatbelt. Both vehicles were headed in the same direction when the crash occurred.
Whiting’s identity was not released until Wednesday, pending notification of his family.
The Park City Fire Department, Sheriff’s Office and Utah Highway Patrol responded.
