The Miners girls volleyball squad dropped their regular season finale last week, losing 3-1 at PCHS to Herriman. The loss dropped Park City to 20-8 overall on the season, which was still good enough for the fourth seed in the UHSAA 4A bracket.
With this fourth seed comes an added benefit, earning one of the eight available byes for the first round of play, which is commencing this weekend. Instead of gearing up Saturday and facing elimination for the first time, the Miners will be resting up and preparing for their second round clash on Wednesday.
For this match, the team will be heading down to Utah Valley University, where all but the first round of the tournament will be held. They’ll be playing on court four at the university complex, against the winner of Provo and Jordan.
While both of these squads have losing records, there’s no doubt Park City will be hoping to face off against Jordan. The Beetdiggers have the worse 8-19 overall record, which included two losses, one at home and one on the road, to the Miners this season, both 3-0.
If Park City are to keep advancing, they’ll face a busy road ahead. The state quarterfinals are also to be held Wednesday evening, and the semifinals and finals are both to be played on Thursday.
