The Park City Police Department has received at least three recent reports of sightings of people hunting, including a case at Park City Mountain.
The police occasionally receive reports of hunters in the fall and there have been cases at the mountain resort previously.
The police on Saturday at 8:30 a.m. received information about a hunter who was reportedly seen at Park City Mountain, apparently in the area of a trail called Tommy’s Two Step. The person who contacted the police indicated they saw a man with a bow and wearing camouflage. The sighting occurred two minutes before the call to the police. The summertime Tommy’s Two Step trail is off the popular Mid-Mountain Trail.
Park City Mountain prohibits hunting all year.
“This is for the general safety of our guests and employees and also aligns with Park City Municipal ordinances that apply across the property. This prohibition is posted at major entries to the property, including at Mid-Mountain,” Sara Huey, a Park City Mountain spokesperson, said in response to a Park Record inquiry about the case.
In another case reported to the police, on Saturday at 12:41 p.m., the department received a report of two people with electric bicycles who were apparently wearing camouflage and had bows. The police said the circumstances were suspicious. It appeared from public police logs the two were seen somewhere along the Spiro Trail.
On Sunday at 9:10 a.m., meanwhile, the Police Department was told of someone hearing sounds that resembled gunshots in the area of Lowell Avenue. The location of the source of the sound was not clear to the person who contacted the police. The person also told the police they saw a hunter the day before, but it was not clear from the logs where the person who was suspected to be hunting was spotted.
