A large amount of methamphetamine was discovered by the Summit County Sheriff’s Office during a routine traffic stop over the weekend.
Deputies with the special enforcement unit arrested one man and seized around 31 pounds of meth on Saturday night, according to a report from the Sheriff’s Office.
The driver was stopped in North Summit while traveling eastbound on Interstate 80 near mile marker 179 for a traffic violation. Deputies observed other indicators of criminal activity, which prompted them to request for a Sheriff’s Office K9 to check the vehicle.
The canine was deployed and displayed an alert that told deputies drugs were likely present inside the vehicle. Deputies located a large quantity of meth during a subsequent probable cause search.
The man was arrested. He faces a possession with intent to distribute charge, which is a second-degree felony. The Department of Homeland Security was also notified and is investigating whether to pursue federal charges.
