The Park City Miners survived a turnover-filled contest with the Stansbury Stallions last week, winning 21-17. With the win, the Miners moved to 6-0 on their season, pulling further clear of the Tooele Buffaloes, who sit in second place in the region at 2-4 overall and 2-0 in regional play.
The Miners struggled immensely to get their ground game going, once again missing their star running back Will McCurdy, who suited up with his leg taped, but only received a few first half touches. Park City then had to fall back on chunk passing plays by backup quarterback Bash Bodily, who was just one of several, more-inexperienced players to impress Head Coach Josh Montzingo last Friday.
Montzingo spoke about Bodily’s knack for making big plays just when the Miners needed them, which included three spectacular touchdown passes to three separate receivers against the Stallions. “He did a great job of really making some plays and keeping us in this game tonight,” said Montzingo.
Park City will rely on Bodily and others to continue making big plays when they travel down to Salt Lake City in a few days, on Friday, to play the Cottonwood Colts. The Miners will enter the game as massive favorites, with the Colts being winless on the season, however Coach Montzingo is more focused on his own team and cleaning up their self-inflicted wounds, like all the turnovers from last Friday.
