The Park City Miners Girls Soccer Team defeated the Jordan Beetdiggers 3-0 Thursday evening, improving their win streak to nine games. Park City did so by applying consistent, offensive pressure, which resulted in eventual goals by juniors Sutton Hall and Caroline Retzer.
Retzer, who scored both of her goals in a matter of minutes in the second half, credited her aggressive mindset when the game was hanging in the balance. “I wanted to get a goal, and we were only up by one, so I went at it,” she said.
Next up for Retzer and the Miners is Hillcrest, who they’ll travel to on Monday in an attempt to take their win streak to double digits. The game will be Park City’s third-to-last of the regular season, which they wrap up at home on Sept. 27 against Murray.
Retzer expressed hope for a run at state, and Head Coach Anthony DiCicco stated that the Miners success has all been a part of the regimented process he’s instilled with the team. Coach DiCicco said, “when we get to games, there’s a lot of times when we’re ready to do what we want to do, because it’s what we’ve been doing all week long (in practice and elsewhere).”
Coach DiCicco expects the Huskies to come out swinging Monday at his team, which is undefeated and in first place in their region. He is confident in their preparation and ability to get the job done against the Huskies and moving forward.
