The Wasatch County Sheriff’s Office in an Aug. 16 press release has more details about an Aug. 7 shooting and stabbing incident in Midway.
According to the release, the 25-year-old who wielded the knife was Warick Daugaard. His 53-year-old father, Eric Daugaard, shot his son to “defend himself,” according to the release.
“Preliminary indications suggest that Eric was stabbed multiple times by Warick,” the release states. Eric retrieved a firearm to defend himself, shooting and injuring Warick.”
Though the release specifies that “the Medical Examiner determines the official cause of death,” it suggests Warick’s death may not have been due to the wounds inflicted by his father.
“Preliminary indications also suggest that Warick succumbed to a self-inflicted wound caused by an edged weapon,” the release states.
“We extend our condolences to the family and friends affected by this tragedy.”
A GoFundMe account has been set up in Warick’s name to help his family pay for his funeral.
