In a collaboration with KPCW, joint efforts have produced a voter guide for the 2023 Park City Council elections.
This unified local election guide is intended to help voters make educated decisions when casting their votes to elect three new Park City councilors to serve a four-year term. “We want to make sure voters are informed about the differences between candidates,” says Tatiana Prince, owner of The Park Record, in an email.
In addition to details about each person in the running, the voter guide includes a series of “Important Dates.” This year, with a field of eight candidates, a primary election will narrow the pool to six. Primary election polls will be open on Sept. 5 and Election Day will be held on Nov. 21.
The bulk of the voter guide contains a condensed snapshot of each candidate’s responses to a series of key questions, put together along with KPCW’s news team, says Prince. These topics include career background, three top priorities, their campaign ‘in a nutshell’, their vision for Park City, what sets them apart as a candidate and contact information.
Long-time freelance reporter for The Park Record, Pamela Manson, worked in collaboration with Parker Malatesta, a reporter for KPCW, to gather answers from all eight candidates.
“KPCW Radio was excited to collaborate with the Park Record on this voter guide. As a nonprofit news source, part of our mission is to help share critical information with the community,” says Ashton Edwards, KPCW’s News Director in a prepared statement. “We are committed to bringing voters the facts ahead of the election. We are looking forward to cohosting the candidate forum with The Park Record, Park City Community Foundation and Park City Chamber of Commerce.”
Partnering with KPCW is part of The Park Record’s efforts to increase quality news distribution to Summit and Wasatch counties. “We have huge respect for KPCW and expect that there will be lots more ways we can collaborate in the future,” says Prince.
Physical copies of the voter guide will be available around town and was distributed in our print edition on Saturday Aug. 12.
