A vehicle traveling slowly through Pinebrook on Sunday was deemed suspicious by Summit County Sheriff’s Office deputies.
A traffic stop was initiated on the vehicle after it was seen driving 20 miles under the speed limit on Kilby Road. Deputies suspected the driver, who was the only occupant, was involved in criminal activity, according to a report from the Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies stopped the vehicle and asked the driver if they could search the car, which the suspect granted. Law enforcement then found a personal amount of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia.
The suspect was arrested and taken into custody, where deputies located more paraphernalia. The driver was booked into the Summit County Jail without further incident.
The Sheriff’s Office responded to several other calls between Monday, July 24 and Sunday, July 30, including several reports of missing hikers and traffic stops as well as a noise complaint.
Sunday, July 30
Summit County Search and Rescue was notified about an overdue party in the Tungsten Lake area. Later in the shift, the caller advised the group was found in good health near Moon Lake.
Deputies were dispatched to Summit Park for a noise complaint. While investigating, an intoxicated man refused to provide identification. He was arrested on several charges, including disorderly conduct.
Saturday, July 29
Search and Rescue was notified of a stuck vehicle somewhere near Whitney Reservoir. The call was placed by an insurance provider, and volunteers were not able to make contact with the individual. They later reached a family member who advised the individual was near Bear River with a large group. There was no concern and no further action was taken.
A traffic stop was conducted in Marion for speeding. Deputies noticed signs of impairment after making contact with the driver. They also noticed the smell of alcohol coming from inside the vehicle. The driver agreed to participate in a standardized field sobriety test, on which he performed poorly. He was subsequently arrested for suspected DUI.
Thursday, July 27
Search and Rescue was paged for a medical assist. Volunteers were still making their way to the individual, who was camping at Packard Lake, at the end of the night shift. The individual was suffering from a heart condition.
Wednesday, July 26
Search and Rescue responded to the Henry’s Fork area for an overdue hiker. First responders contacted the woman by phone. She confirmed she had returned to her vehicle and was traveling home.
A traffic stop was conducted near Bear Hollow. Deputies approached the driver and discovered the individual had an active warrant out of Salt Lake County. The driver was taken into custody and transported to the Summit County Jail.
Tuesday, July 25
Search and Rescue was notified about an overdue party in the lower Red Castle Lake area. Forest Service personnel located the group in good health.
Deputies conducted a traffic stop at a Silver Springs gas station for a traffic violation. The vehicle was impounded for no insurance and canceled registration. Deputies cleared the area and later discovered the driver had provided them with someone else’s name instead of his own. The driver had multiple warrants out of Salt Lake City. Deputies also located a small amount of heroin and drug paraphernalia on the suspect. He was arrested on numerous charges.
Search and Rescue was dispatched to Crystal Lake for a lost 13-year-old. A crew responded and located the child. He was found in good health.
A hiker broke her ankle on Bald Mountain and needed assistance. Search and Rescue was dispatched, and a medical helicopter responded to locate the woman. She was ultimately transported to the hospital by ambulance.
