Early Friday morning, July 28, Park City Fire District crews responded to a structure fire at a residence off Mountain Top Drive.
When crews arrived at 5 a.m. this morning, “there were flames showing on the back side of the large single family home,” says the PCFD post on Facebook. “All occupants and pets were evacuated safely.”
The crews were able to contain the fire quickly and ventilated the area.
An investigation showed that the fire was caused by oily rags, resulting in about $400k in damage.
“We want to remind people that oily rags have the ability to spontaneously catch on fire. It is important that they are disposed of properly which could be as simple as putting them in a metal bucket. Read and follow the directions on the stain labels,” said PCFD Fire Marshal Mike Owens in a prepared statement.
