I’ve known John “Jack” Murphy for two decades, skiing and visiting Park City, my family’s permanent home since 2012. Jack’s family relocated here in 2020. He was soon coaching Basin Recreation youth soccer, Park City Youth Lacrosse, state level True Utah Lacrosse and state box lacrosse team, Utah Sting. He was asked to serve on the St. Mary’s Pastoral Council. John fully immerses himself in his community. I’ve witnessed John build consensus through power and influence during the time we worked together. 0ur community has recognized his service and leadership as an important contribution, sharing time and talent, improving our Summit County quality of life.
Jack’s opponent favors Kimball Junction high density and allowing Dakota Pacific to move from commercial to residential. We don’t need more of the same on the council. We need someone who will:
* Read 4,000 lines of code (HB 462) to understand Dakota Pacific negotiables
* Analyze 43,000 property assessments (2021-2022) with data analysis
* Recite relevant tax code to State Tax commissioners to defend Summit County property owners
* Enlist local representatives as allies in maintaining local sovereignty in both taxation, development and other actions
* Hold local officers to task when they overreach or misstep
John has already done this — and he’s not in office. YET.
This represents a rare opportunity to elect someone not beholden to anyone but family, friends, and community. No outside organization, special interest, or corporate donations. Jack’s opponent plays local politics, endorsed by the same people currently eroding our quality of life.
