Whether you consider the news joyful and triumphant or just a big pain in the ol’ yuletide treasure, Mother Nature is at it again. The National Weather Service issued a winter storm warning from 6 a.m. Thursday until 5 a.m. on Saturday.
Heavy snow is possible, with potential accumulations ranging from 5 to 15 inches. The areas affected include the Wasatch Back and areas from Park City to Kamas.
Holiday travel will likely be affected.
How is a winter storm warning different from a winter storm watch?
The National Weather Service issues a Winter Storm Warning when a combination of extreme winter weather is imminent. When there is potential for hazardous winter weather within a 48-hour timeframe, the NHS will issue a Winter Storm Watch.
In this case, a Winter Storm Warning means snow accumulation is imminent. This means drivers should pack extra clothing, blankets, water and other provisions in their vehicles. Pack a bag of salt melt or kitty litter in the trunk, and allow plenty of time to reach your destination.
Oh, and get the skis and snowboards ready because it could be a fun few days on the slopes.
