Park City firefighters evacuated Home Depot Thursday afternoon after a dumpster connected to the building through a chute caught fire, according to the Park City Fire District.
Tricia Hurd Hazelrigg, a Fire District spokeswoman, said dispatch received a report of smoke somewhere in the Home Depot building east of U.S. 40 at around 4:03 p.m. Firefighters, with the help of the Summit County Sheriff’s Office, evacuated the building.
Crews determined a dumpster located at the northeast corner of the building had caught fire, Hazelrigg said. The dumpster was in a loading area and connected to the building by a chute.
“It essentially filled the store with smoke,” she said.
A tow truck moved the dumpster away from the building so crews could extinguish the fire, Hazelrigg said. The fire was contained to the dumpster.
The store was closed for about an hour as crews worked to ventilate the building. Three engines, a fire truck and an ambulance were on scene.
No one reported any injuries due to smoke inhalation or was transported to the hospital, she said.
The cause of the fire was under investigation. Hazelrigg said The Home Depot planned to review surviellance footage to help determine when the fire started.
