The Summit County Sheriff’s Office says is aware of, but not actively searching for a man who may be missing.
Thursday, June 23, dispatch received a report from a man camping along the Mirror Lake Highway that he had found a truck that appeared to be abandoned in the Shingle Creek camp site near mile marker 9. The owner had left a note on the seat of the truck stating that he was not coming back and the truck now belonged to his wife, according to the Sheriff’s report.
Deputies contacted the owner’s wife who claimed her husband suffers from mental health issues and had made statements in the past about “living in the wilderness.”
Several law enforcement officials, including a search helicopter and Summit County Search and Rescue, responded to the area, but were unable to locate him.
Detective Kacey Bates said it is suspected that the man does not want to be located. Bates said any searches have been suspended.
Motorcyclist injured after rear-ending vehicle
A motorcyclist traveling behind a Subaru along Highland Drive near the Snyderville Basin Special Recreation District Fieldhouse on Thursday possibly broke his leg when he rear-ended the vehicle, according to the Summit County Sheriff’s Office.
According to the report, he hit the Subaru when it suddenly stopped to avoid hitting another motorist. The motorcyclist was cited for no insurance, failure to remove previous owner’s plates and following too closely.
Car strikes business
A 73-year old Summit County woman sustained minor injuries last week after she crashed her car into the side of a business in the Kimball Junction area.
The woman was transported to Park City Medical center with minor injuries. An update on her condition was not available.
According to the Summit County Sheriff’s Office, the woman was attempting to pull into a parking stall in front of Shabu Shabu House and accidently hit the gas instead of the brakes.
The vehicle reportedly jumped the curb and struck the building, causing minor damage.
The woman was not cited.
Stolen computer
The Summit County Sheriff’s Office says a $500 computer tower was stolen last week from the Summit County Library’s Kimball Junction Branch.
At around 4 p.m. on Tuesday, June 21, dispatch received a call from a library employee who noticed the tower was missing. According to the Sheriff’s Office, the library’s computer logs showed that it had last been used at around 1 p.m. that day. The library does not have video surveillance.
Detective Kacey Bates said the department is honing in on a suspect. An investigation is ongoing.
“It’s pretty brazen to take a computer tower from the library in the middle of the day,” Bates said. “It’s also pretty sad that we have these services that are offered to our community and people take advantage of them.”
According to the Summit County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to numerous other calls between Monday, June 20, and Sunday, June 26, including four suspected cases of possession of drugs and paraphernalia.

Saturday, June 25
When responding to a potential domestic violence incident, deputies arrested a man on preliminary charges of possession of a drug presumed to be methamphetamine and paraphernalia.
Deputies responded to a North Summit campground after dispatch received a report that men were fighting. Two men were arrested for intoxication and disorderly conduct. A woman was also on preliminary charges of intoxication and disorderly conduct.
While investigating a separate incident at a North Summit campsite, deputies overheard an argument between a man and a woman. The woman was arrested on preliminary charges of assault and intoxication.
A man was arrested for multiple outstanding warrants and on preliminary charges of possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia in the North Summit area.
Deputies voluntarily transported a potentially suicidal man from a South Summit home to the University of Utah.
Friday, June 24
Two men were cited for assault and released after they were involved in a fight at a gas station in the Basin.
Deputies responded to a report of a man acting suspiciously walking along a road in the Basin. He was arrested for an outstanding warrant, providing false information to a peace officer, possession of a drug presumed to be methamphetamine and paraphernalia.
A business in the Basin contacted dispatch after employees claimed a man stole two pairs of pants and then drove away in a silver-colored vehicle.
Deputies responded to a one-vehicle accident on a Basin road and arrested a woman on preliminary charges of driving under the influence and open container.
Employees at a medical office in the Kimball Junction area contacted staff after receiving threatening phone calls from a patient demanding specific appointment times. The suspect was asked not to call or return again.
Employees at a business in the Kimball Junction area contacted deputies after finding photos and video of two women reportedly stealing items. An investigation is ongoing.
Thursday, June 23
Deputies responded to a potential domestic violence situation between a man and a woman a home in a Basin-area neighborhood. No citations were issued.
A 30-year-old man was found deceased at his South Summit home. An investigation is ongoing. However, the death is not considered suspicious.
A North Summit woman claimed to have been harassed by a former co-worker.
A woman discovered the driver’s side window of her vehicle had been smashed while it was parked in the Kimball Junction area. Nothing was reported missing.
A man contacted dispatch after receiving several credit cards in his name that he did not apply for.
Deputies filed a report from a woman who claimed to have been harassed by family members.
Wednesday, June 22
Someone stole several tools from a construction site in the Basin.
Someone contacted dispatch after witnessing a potential domestic violence situation between a man and a woman. When deputies arrived, they discovered the woman had several outstanding warrants and were unable to locate the man. The woman was arrested for the warrants.
A South Summit woman contacted dispatch claiming she could hearing voices inside her home. Neighbors did not claim to see anyone acting suspiciously near the home.
Tuesday, June 21
After deputies located a potentially suicidal man in South Summit, he was voluntarily transported to Park City Medical Center.
Deputies responded to a business in the Kimball Junction area to perform a welfare check on a man after dispatch was contacted by an out-of-state officer who was in contact with him. The man was involuntarily committed to Park City Medical Center.
Monday, June 20
A 57-year old woman was found deceased by her husband at their North Summit home. The death is not considered suspicious.
Deputies arrested a man on preliminary charges of possession of a firearm, possession of stolen property, possession of a drug presumed to be methamphetamine, possession of marijuana and paraphernalia after noticing his vehicle parking on a North Summit road with stolen license plates.
An employee of a business in the Kimball Junction area reported that someone stole an unknown amount of money from the business’ safe. An investigation is ongoing.
