The Park City Police Department in mid-June received a report that more than $4,000 was missing from a lodging firm in Deer Valley, but it was unclear precisely when the money was taken.
The police logged the report at a little after 9 a.m. on June 14. Rick Ryan, a police captain, though, said the money disappeared sometime between April 11 or April 12 and the time the lodging firm realized it was missing.
Ryan said staffers at the lodging firm made change and found the money tray to “be a little light.” The lodging firm performed an accounting of transactions and determined $4,516 was missing.
Ryan said the money was kept in a safe. Someone requires a key and a combination to access the inside of the safe. He said several employees had a key and the combination. The captain said the perpetrator had an understanding of the firm’s operations.
“Someone who knew the workings of that office,” Ryan said.
The Police Department investigation is continuing.
