The Park City Planning Commission on Wednesday is scheduled to hold a hearing about the Bonanza Park partnership’s ideas to redevelop the district, but the meeting this week is not expected to draw as much attention as those that will be held later.
The Planning Commission will accept testimony at the meeting on Wednesday, but the panel is not scheduled to discuss the redevelopment in any depth. The meeting is scheduled to start at 5:30 p.m. in the Park City Council’s chambers at the Marsac Building. The Planning Commission is anticipated to signal its intention to return to the discussions at a later, unspecified date.
A brief City Hall report prepared for the meeting indicates staffers want additional time to discuss the project with the Bonanza Park partnership prior to another date in front of the Planning Commission.
But the meeting nonetheless offers another opportunity for public input on one of the most ambitious development proposals currently under review at City Hall. The Bonanza Park partnership consisting of Mark J. Fischer and John Paul Dejoria acquired a patchwork of properties and wants to pursue a residential and commercial project stretching through much of the district. Bonanza Park is centered along Bonanza Drive and Kearns Boulevard.
The project would stretch through parcels on Kearns Boulevard, Bonanza Drive and Munchkin Road. Many of the buildings now standing would be razed and the land redeveloped. The Bonanza Park partnership wants the Planning Commission to approve upward of 335,000 square feet of development in a mix of residences, commercial properties and offices. The partnership remains in the early stages of City Hall’s development process.
Fischer has long seen Bonanza Park as someday becoming another hub in Park City and a complement to Main Street’s shopping, dining and entertainment offerings.
The Planning Commission last addressed the Bonanza Park proposal in May, drawing split testimony. It appears the upcoming Planning Commission discussions and future hearings will address topics like the height of the proposed buildings in Bonanza Park and the traffic the project is expected to generate.
The panel will eventually be asked to cast a preliminary vote on the proposal. If the preliminary vote is in favor of the developers, the Bonanza Park partnership would return for a more detailed round of talks prior to another vote.
