Mitt Romney is set to convene his annual summit in Deer Valley this week, a gathering that typically brings a high-caliber roster of attendees to Park City to debate the political situation in the country.
It is the fourth annual E2 Summit and is scheduled from Thursday until Saturday at Stein Eriksen Lodge. A spokesperson for the event declined to discuss the details of the conference and also declined to discuss the list of attendees. The summit usually brings approximately 300 people to Park City. It is a private event.
Past Romney-led gatherings in Park City have involved a list of prominent Republicans. The event in 2015 was held in the early days of the presidential campaign. Six Republicans who had either declared their candidacies for the GOP nomination or were considering a White House bid were on the guest list last year. Governors, senators and congressmen have attended past gatherings as well. Business leaders are also included.
The Park City Police Department said it is aware of the gathering and that it is private. The police declined to discuss security measures.
The E2 Summit gatherings launched the year after Romney’s unsuccessful White House campaign in 2012. That year, as Romney prepared to accept the GOP nomination, he brought a large contingent to Park City to ready for the fall campaign. The event in 2012 was held under heavy security, but the gatherings since then have been lower key in nature.
Romney has a long history in Park City dating to before his time leading the 2002 Winter Olympics. He previously owned a home in Solamere and the Romneys now have a place in Deer Valley.
