According to the Summit County Attorney’s Office, the following cases were heard on Aug. 10 in Third District Court at the Summit County Justice Center:
Jack H. Appleby, 42, of Las Vegas, Nevada, entered into a plea in abeyance for a period of 12 months to attempted purchase, transfer, possession or use of a firearm by a restricted person, a Class A misdemeanor. The court ordered the defendant to pay a $500 fee and complete other standard terms and conditions. He also entered a guilty plea to possession or use of a controlled substance, a Class B misdemeanor. The court imposed a 180-day jail sentence and a $1,000 fine. That sentence was stayed and the court placed him on court probation for 12 months, ordered him to pay a $400 fine and complete other standard terms and conditions.
Victor M. Chavez, 20, of Park City, entered a guilty plea to criminal trespass and domestic violence, a Class B misdemeanor. The court imposed a six-month jail sentence and a $1,000 fine. That sentence was stayed and the court placed the defendant on court probation for 12 months, ordered him to complete a domestic violence evaluation and treatment, 20 hours of community service, pay a $250 fine and complete other standard terms and conditions.
Blake M. Cripps, 18, of Park City, entered into a plea in abeyance for a period of 12 months to possession or use of a controlled substance, a Class A misdemeanor, and use or possession of drug paraphernalia, a Class A misdemeanor. The court ordered the defendant to pay a $750 fine and complete other standard terms and conditions.
Adam Lopez, 19, of Park City, entered a guilty plea to possession or use of a controlled substance, a Class B misdemeanor, and impaired driving, a Class B misdemeanor. The court imposed a 180-day jail sentence and a $1,000 fine for possession or use of a controlled substance and imposed a 180-day jail sentence and a $1000 fine for impaired driving. Those sentences are to run concurrent to each other. Those sentences were stayed and the court placed the defendant on court probation for 12 months, ordered him to complete 48 hours of community service, pay a $1,400 fine, complete a substance abuse evaluation and treatment and complete other standard terms and conditions.
Rigoberto Solano, 44, of Tooele, entered into a plea in abeyance for a period of 24 months to possession or use of a controlled substance, a third-degree felony. The court ordered the defendant to complete 30 hours of community service, pay a $500 fee and complete other standard terms and conditions.
Gabe Jolley, 37, of North Salt Lake, entered a no contest plea to attempted possession or use of a controlled substance, a Class A misdemeanor. Sentencing is Sept. 14.
Joel Padron Sosa, 44, of Park City, entered a guilty plea to attempted unlawful acquisition, possession or transfer of a financial transaction card, a Class A misdemeanor, and falsification or alteration of government record, a Class B misdemeanor. The court imposed a one-year jail sentence and a $2,500 fine for attempted unlawful acquisition, possession or transfer of a financial transaction card, a Class A misdemeanor. The court imposed a 180-day jail sentence for falsification or alteration of government record, a Class B misdemeanor. Those sentences are to run concurrent to each other. Those sentences were stayed and the court placed the defendant on court probation for 18 months, ordered him to serve 24 days in jail with credit for 24 days served, pay restitution of $28.52 and complete other standard terms and conditions.
Sheyenne Amanda Schmaltz, 21, of Bennett, Colorado, entered a guilty plea to attempted obstruction of justice, a Class B misdemeanor. The court imposed a 180-day jail sentence and a $1,000 fine. That sentence was stayed and the court placed the defendant on court probation for 12 months, ordered her to complete 20 hours of community service, pay a $300 fine and complete other standard terms and conditions.
Jesus Santana Molina, 23, of Park City, was sentenced for the offenses of two counts of sexual battery, each Class A misdemeanors, and unlawful Detention, a Class B misdemeanor. The court imposed a one-year jail sentence for each of the Class A misdemeanors and imposed a 180-day jail sentence for the Class B misdemeanor. Those sentences are to run consecutive to each other. Those sentences were stayed and the court placed the defendant on supervised probation for 36 months, ordered him to serve 730 days in jail with credit for 187 days served and complete other standard terms and conditions.
Susan Renee Thornton, 37, of Murray, entered a no contest plea to attempted possession or use of a controlled substance, a Class A misdemeanor. Sentencing is Sept. 14.
Freddie Rico, 27, of Taylorsville, was sentenced for the offense of attempted forcible sexual abuse, a third-degree felony. The court imposed a zero-to-five year sentence at the Utah State Prison. That sentence was stayed and the court placed the defendant on supervised probation for 36 months, gave him credit for 128 days served, ordered him to complete 100 hours of community service and other standard terms and conditions.
