Park City officials are preparing to start a second phase of work along the important entryway to Deer Valley Resort.

The beautification work is expected to start next week on the stretch of Deer Valley Drive between the Old Town roundabout and Snow Park Lodge.

The upgrades will include:

  • lights along the sidewalk between Sunnyside Drive and Snow Park Lodge. The lights will be put on the west and south sides of Deer Valley Drive.
  • widening sidewalks to eight feet in width between Sunnyside Drive and Snow Park Lodge. The work will be on the west and south sides of Deer Valley Drive
  • a new crosswalk at the intersection of Deer Valley Drive and Deer Valley Drive North
  • repainting the crosswalk at the intersection of Deer Valley Drive and Sunnyside Drive
  • minor landscaping improvements
  • two bus pullouts, at the Foxglove and Greyhawk condominiums
  • the installation of a monument showing people are entering Deer Valley Resort. The monument will be between 12 feet tall and 15 feet tall and be situated just south of the intersection of Deer Valley Drive and Deer Valley Drive North.

    Matt Cassel, the Park City engineer, said the work is anticipated to last up to 12 weeks and cost City Hall $860,455. He said the upgrades are “finishing touches” left from the first phase, which took place in 2013.

    City Hall planned to undertake the second phase in 2014, but officials delayed the work until this year after bids were higher than anticipated.

    Cassel said the work will make the stretch of Deer Valley Drive friendlier for pedestrians. He said people who live in the neighborhood wanted the improvements.

    The city engineer anticipates minimal traffic delays during the work.

    An open house about the Deer Valley Drive work is scheduled on Wednesday, May 6 between 5 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. in the Park City Council chambers at the Marsac Building. City Hall staffers, the contractor and the design consultant are expected to be available to answer questions.
