A 5-year-old Henefer boy was killed after he slipped while riding on a tractor near his family’s home on Saturday morning.
According to a press release from the Summit County Sheriff’s Department, a family member was driving the tractor to a nearby gas station and the boy was balanced on a foot rest. He apparently lost his balance and became caught between the tractor’s frame and the wheel. Another family member was following the tractor on an ATV and witnessed the accident.
North Summit EMS personnel and an air ambulance crew attempted to revive the child but were unsuccessful. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The press release stated, after investigating the circumstances of the accident it was determined that no alcohol was involved and no citations were issued.
The sheriff’s office did not immediately release the name of the victim but has since confirmed his identity as Brayden J. Townley.
Services for Brayden have been set for Wednesday and Thursday. A viewing will be held at the Henefer LDS Church Weds., Oct. 29 from 6 to 10 p.m. There will also be a viewing at the same location Thursday Oct. 30 from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. followed by a procession to the Henefer Cemetery.

According to Sheriff’s Capt. Justin Martinez, deputies have offered to lead the funeral procession on their motorcycles, since Martinez said, “Brayden loved seeing policemen.”
“Our deepest condolences go out to the family,” he added.
