The Park City Police Department last week responded to several reports of moose in the city, continuing a string of recent animal-related complaints.

There were also reports involving other wildlife last week as well as a few dog-related calls to the police.

The Police Department typically is the first agency to respond to wildlife reports, but state wildlife officers usually are called if they are needed.

The moose reports last week included:

  • on Saturday, Oct. 11 at 9:01 a.m., a moose was seen in the vicinity of Hidden Oaks Lane, a street in Solamere. The police were told a dog followed the moose up a hill. The dog owner was apparently worried, according to police logs.
  • on Friday, Oct. 10 at 7:28 p.m., cars were reportedly stopping in the street along the 1000 block of Park Avenue to avoid hitting a moose. The location is in Old Town, between the Park City Library and Education Center and the Town Bridge. The animal moved to the side of the road, the police said.
  • on Wednesday, Oct. 8 at 8:24 p.m., a moose was reportedly seen in the vicinity of Deer Valley Drive and Rossie Hill Drive. The person who contacted the police indicated it was dark and the animal was difficult to see.

    There were other animal-related reports last week as well.

    On Oct. 10 at 9:56 p.m., someone reported seeing several large elk off the road along S.R. 224 as it passes the McPolin Farm.

    Also on that day, on the small Solamere street of Snow Cloud Circle, a deer carcass was found on a lawn, the police were told.

    On Oct. 8 at 7:16 p.m., the police were informed of a traffic accident involving a collision with a deer. The accident was logged on the 1700 block of Kearns Boulevard. Police logs indicated the deer was killed in the collision.

    The Police Department, meanwhile, also received several dog-related complaints.

    Someone on Monarch Drive at 10:20 a.m. on Oct. 10 reported being attacked by a neighbor’s dog, according to the police. Police logs indicated the victim suffered torn clothes. The dog did not make contact with the person’s skin, the police were told. On Oct. 9 at 9:33 p.m., a dog reportedly was heard barking for an hour somewhere along Mountain Oak Court, a small street in Park Meadows. The police were told there were no lights on inside the house where the dog was.
