Summit County Search and Rescue was deployed to the Kings Peak area on Sept. 9 to search for a missing 73-year-old man, the Summit County Sheriff’s Office reported.
At about 2 a.m. on Tuesday, Paul C. Young, of Salt Lake City, was reported as overdue from a hiking trip on Kings Peak, said Sgt. Ron Bridge.
Young was last known to be in Salt Lake City on the morning of Friday, Sept. 5 before he traveled to the Henry’s Fork trailhead, Bridge said.
Young is described in a sheriff’s report as “being in good health and an avid outdoorsman.”
Bridge said shortly after the initial report was received, a Summit County deputy went to the trailhead and saw a vehicle registered to Young.
A Department of Public Safety helicopter has been dispatched to assist 11 SAR members on foot, but the sheriff’s report said the air search “is being conducted cautiously” because of the inclement weather in the area.
