Local business leaders voiced their reactions in the wake of the news that Park City Mountain Resort will open this winter. PCMR announced Tuesday that it will pay the $17.5 million bond a judge had ordered it to pay to remain on the land this season while it continues its high-profile lawsuit with its landlord, Talisker Land Holdings, LLC.

  • Mike Sweeney, co-owner of the Town Lift Plaza, which houses retail outlets on Main Street: "I was very pleased. It shows that Park City Mountain Resort is taking the high road. It’s certainly going to make things easier for Main Street without that uncertainty. That will be a real plus for us."
  • Linda Jager, Park City Chamber of Commerce and Visitors Bureau communications manager: "We’re very thrilled. Our entire office was very happy to hear of the news this morning. All along throughout this process, we’ve been prepared for either scenario, in terms of having to adjust messaging, should the resort have gone dark for the season. But we’ve been operating business as usual, so we’ve prepared all of our advertising collateral promoting all three resorts. We’re ready to go place those ads."
  • Hans Fuegi, local restaurateur and commercial real estate investor: "There’s certainly relief within the business community, and I think of everybody, quite frankly. Business people or season pass holders — you name it. (PCMR opening) is what needed to happen. I’m glad that’s the outcome, at least for this season. Obviously the bigger question is going to be hanging out there of what the ultimate or permanent solution will be. But at least we know we have a normal season at three resorts for the upcoming year."
  • Rob Slettom, President of Identity Properties: "I feel that (PCMR and Talisker) understood the impacts for the community. But it had to go through the process of the courts to where it is today. And sometimes that just does not move along as quickly as people like."
